A hospital trip…

I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately, and truth be told it’s because I haven’t been feeling all that well. At 34 weeks pregnant I have been feeling even more exhausted than ever. I spent the last week feeling so dizzy and sick and tired that I eventually thought that I should get myself checked out.

This is my third baby which means that midwife care has been sparse to say the least. My last appointment was at 28 weeks and that was only the second time I have seen my midwife. I’d also had bloods taken at that appointment and she had never called me back with the results so I didn’t know if I was anaemic or not. And 6 weeks is a long time to go without a urine or blood pressure check. I hate making a fuss but for the baby’s sake I knew that I was feeling ill enough to warrant being checked over.

So on Monday night off we went to the emergency assessment unit at the Heath hospital in Cardiff. The midwives there were amazing. I was seen really quickly by a midwife and a doctor, they rushed some blood tests through and monitored the baby for half an hour. They were really happy with the baby, although a quick scan confirmed that the little monkey is still sideways!! My blood pressure and iron levels however were on the low side which could really explain how awful I have been feeling.

I was given some heartburn tablets which should help me to sleep better and some iron tablets and told to eat more salty things to help with the low blood pressure and to go back in a couple of days if I didn’t feel any better. I was really glad that I went as it put my mind at rest that the baby is ok and at least I know why I am feeling so ill.

So I am taking things a little bit easier, eating crisps and putting some extra salt on my food and taking my iron tablets. I am feeling slightly better and hope that things will improve. I have a midwife appointment and consultant appointment in the next week so I know that my condition will be monitored. It was definitely worth getting checked out.

5 weeks and counting…come on baby!!
